Today is Batman Day, and the Ultraverse is marking it with the worst night Ashley Kelly has had in a very long time.
She was chasing a story. That is how it always starts: a lead worth one more block, one more door, one more hour past the point where a reporter should have phoned it in. By the time Ashley understood what she had walked into, the story had her.
They took the belt first. Then they opened the blouse, and the blue and red underneath answered a question nobody covering the city had thought to ask about the woman writing the copy. In a derelict warehouse with no witnesses and no way out, Ashley Kelly was caught and catching UltraGirl was the bonus.
What is left is rope, a chair, a gag, and a woman who can do nothing whatsoever about any of it. This is not the beat where she works the knots loose and counts to three. Without the belt she is exactly as strong as she looks, and the people who tied those ropes knew that before they started, which is why they felt safe leaving her there.
Then the skylight comes down.
Happy Batman Day from The Adventures of UltraGirl. Of every hero who might have come through that glass tonight, the one who did has never worn a power belt either.
